Choice of your frame and mat make a big difference on your final "wall ready" art. For example, try to select a frame that will not compete with the art. Generally, you don't have to "match" the furniture in your room, but the frame should complement your decor. A more delicate image might need a smaller mat and less heavy-looking frame. Rules are made to be broken however! Sometimes a very small print made on canvas presented without a mat will look very special in an oversized frame...it's your choice!
